Bad Guys X Good Girls ?????

Question......

Why is it that I see so much fan art that depicts the Antagonist paired with the Protagonist's Love Interest, or in other words, the bad guy gets the good guy's girl?

You know what I mean, I'm sure everyone has seen them; Sesshomaru with Kagome, Zuko with Katara, Draco with Hermione...

Do I need to go on?

Is is that people don't believe the nice guy should get the girl? Are the good guys now days too angsty and whiny while the bad guys are cool and confident? ...or is it something else?

Any thoughts?
